Physiotherapy and Performance in Bristol — Reimagined.
“True performance comes from understanding the body, mind and lifestyle— and how they adapt together.”
Jonno Scott — Physiotherapist | Performance Coach | Founder, ADAPT. PERFORM. — St Paul’s, Bristol
About Me
I’m Jonno — a Bristol physiotherapist specialising in sports injury rehabilitation and performance. I grew up here, built my career elsewhere, and came back to Bristol to raise my daughter and to build something I genuinely believe this city deserves.
I started my career in London working across the private sector with a wide range of people before specialising in sports injury and performance. Since then I’ve worked with athletes from amateur level through to professional, across running, football, kickboxing, triathlon and beyond.
Before physiotherapy I studied Sport and Exercise Coaching Science, and I’ve been involved in sport and physical performance for over 15 years — as an athlete, as a coach, and now as a physio. Playing and coaching football, running and training in the gym taught me things about injury, load, psychology and performance that no textbook covers. That experience shapes how I work every day.
My approach combines physiotherapy, sport science, strength and conditioning, and a genuine understanding of the psychology of pain and performance. How you think about your body and your injury matters more than most people realise — and it’s something I take seriously alongside the clinical work.
Whatever brings you here — a serious injury, a frustrating niggle, a goal you want to reach, or simply wanting to feel stronger and more capable — I’ll help you understand what’s going on and build a plan that actually moves things forward.
Why I Started ADAPT. PERFORM.
Physiotherapy has a fragmentation problem. An injured athlete sees a physio to get out of pain, then gets referred to a rehab specialist to rebuild movement, then passed on to an S&C coach to rebuild strength and return to sport. Three different people, three different philosophies, no guaranteed continuity — and at every handover, something gets lost.
I’ve seen it happen repeatedly, both as a practitioner and as an athlete myself. The result is people who recover from injury but never quite get back to where they were. Or who return to sport too early because no one applied the same objective standard throughout. Or who simply fall through the gap between ‘discharged by physio’ and ‘ready to perform again.’
ADAPT. PERFORM. was built to close that gap. One practitioner, one philosophy, one continuous process — from the first assessment through rehabilitation, strength rebuilding, load management, return to sport and beyond. You don’t get handed over. You don’t start from scratch with someone new. The thread runs all the way through.
Elite-standard care. For everyone.
The second thing I wanted to change was access. The standard of care that elite and professional athletes receive — objective strength testing with force plates and dynamometry, programming analysis, evidence-based recovery guidance covering training load, sleep, nutrition and supplementation, detailed biomechanical assessment — has never been the exclusive preserve of professionals. It’s just historically been treated that way.
There’s no good reason why a club-level runner, a recreational CrossFit athlete, a weekend footballer or someone who just wants to stay active into their fifties shouldn’t receive that same level of rigour and detail. At ADAPT. PERFORM., they do.
Bristol is my home. It’s where I grew up, where I came back to, and where I wanted to build something. The community here — the athletes, the active people, the parents trying to stay fit, the weekend warriors — deserves a clinic that doesn’t make them choose between clinical care and performance. That’s what ADAPT. PERFORM. is.
The adapt. Perform. approach
Adapt Quicker. Recover Stronger. Perform Better.
At ADAPT. PERFORM., rehabilitation and performance are not separate stages — they are part of the same process. Here’s how I approach it.
ADAPT
I start by listening. Understanding your injury, your goals and the demands of your daily life or sport allows me to adapt your plan to you — not just your diagnosis. No two people present the same way, even with the same injury.
Through detailed assessment — clinical, movement-based and objective where appropriate — I identify the true drivers of pain, limitation or reduced performance. That’s where your rehabilitation starts: the right direction, from day one.
RECOVER
Recovery is guided by evidence, not guesswork. I combine hands-on treatment where appropriate with objective testing and measurement — force plates, dynamometry, capacity benchmarks — to track progress, guide loading and make sure you’re building the right foundations.
Strength, capacity and movement quality are reassessed at regular intervals so your recovery is measurable, progressive and purposeful. You always know where you are and what comes next.
PERFORM
Rehabilitation doesn’t end when pain settles. I combine physiotherapy with progressive strength and conditioning, programming analysis and evidence-based guidance on recovery — training load, sleep, nutrition, supplementation — to rebuild physical capacity and prepare you fully for the demands ahead.
Performance means something different to everyone. For some it’s returning to competition, hitting a new PB or getting back to the top level of their sport. For others it’s returning to the gym, keeping up with their kids, or moving through daily life without restriction. Whatever performing looks like for you — that’s what we’re building toward.
