Performance Testing & Movement Assessment in Bristol

Objective data. Clear insight. Training and rehabilitation built on what your body actually does — not what it looks like it does.

What Is Performance Testing & Movement Assessment?

Most people don't know exactly what's limiting them. They have a sense that something isn't right — a recurring injury, a strength imbalance, a movement pattern that keeps causing problems — but without objective data, it's difficult to know where to focus

Performance testing and movement assessment at ADAPT. PERFORM. uses force plate technology, dynamometry, and structured movement screening to give you a clear picture of where you are, what's holding you back, and what needs to change. Whether you're in the middle of rehabilitation, preparing for a return to sport, or simply want to understand your body better — testing gives you the information to move forward with confidence.

What Testing Includes

Testing is tailored to your goals and context. A typical session may include some or all of the following:

Force Plate Testing — VALD ForceDecks

Using VALD ForceDecks — the same technology used by professional sports clubs and national sporting bodies — I can measure ground reaction forces, jump mechanics, limb symmetry, and force production capacity with clinical precision.

Force plate data is used to assess:

  • Limb symmetry index — identifying side-to-side strength differences

  • Countermovement jump and drop jump performance

  • Single-leg force production and loading strategy

  • Rate of force development

  • Return-to-sport readiness following ACL reconstruction or lower limb injury

Strength Testing — Dynamometry

Handheld and fixed dynamometry allows precise measurement of muscle strength across key joints and movement patterns. This identifies strength deficits that aren't always visible during standard assessment and provides a reliable baseline for tracking progress over time.

Strength testing may include:

  • Quadriceps and hamstring strength assessment

  • Hip and glute strength profiling

  • Calf and ankle plantar flexion capacity

  • Upper limb and shoulder strength assessment where relevant

Movement Screening & Analysis

Movement screening assesses how you load, stabilise, and control your body through functional tasks. I look at movement quality, joint mechanics, and loading strategy — identifying patterns that may contribute to injury risk or limit performance.

This may include:

  • Single-leg squat and landing mechanics

  • Hip and lower limb control under load

  • Overhead movement quality for overhead athletes

  • Running-related movement screening and gait assessment

  • Sport-specific movement tasks where appropriate

Load Tolerance & Capacity Assessment

Understanding how well your tissues tolerate load — and where the gaps are — is central to building a rehabilitation or performance programme that actually works. Capacity testing identifies the point at which training needs to be pitched to drive adaptation without overload.

Who Performance Testing Is For

Testing is suitable for a wide range of individuals and contexts:

  • Athletes post-ACL reconstruction — objective return-to-sport criteria using limb symmetry and force production data

  • Runners returning from injury — strength profiling, movement screening, and running-related capacity assessment

  • Tendon pain and persistent lower limb injuries — load tolerance testing to guide rehabilitation progression

  • Strength and gym athletes — asymmetry identification, movement quality assessment, and programme optimisation

  • Team sport athletes — pre-season screening, injury risk profiling, and return-to-play assessment

  • Anyone wanting a clear baseline — understanding your physical capacity before starting a training or rehabilitation programme

Testing can be a standalone session or integrated within a physiotherapy or strength and conditioning pathway.
